Hobby is $5 minimum usage. That fee covers your first $5 of resource usage each month. If usage stays within $5, the subscription fee is the whole bill. If your resource usage is $7, your total bill for the cycle will be $7 ($5 subscription fee + $2 of usage). Pro works the same way at $20 minimum usage with $20 included. Resource prices are RAM $10 / GB / month, CPU $20 / vCPU / month and network egress $0.05 / GB. Usage overage from the previous month is billed in arrears, together with the next month's subscription. Service builds are free: there is no charge for build CPU, memory, base-image downloads, image exports or image storage.
Not exactly. The referral program functions differently from credit promotions. Anyone who signs up from a referral link receives $20 in Railway credits, equivalent to a free month on the Pro tier. All referees must be first-time recipients of the offer, and multiple referrals to the same individual or entity are disregarded. Usage Credits may only be redeemed on the Services, have no cash value and are non-transferrable. They also expire immediately when the account is cancelled or terminated, unless used before then. Details of any current referral offers sit on the referral page or in the referral section of your account.
Promotion credits land on the next invoice. There they appear as a negative Applied balance that reduces your amount due. Refunds and previous overpayments use the same line. The plan's own included usage is a separate line: Hobby plan included usage ($5.00 off) appears as a discount in the invoice summary (a Pro workspace shows Pro plan included usage ($20.00 off)), and the actual discount applied equals your resource usage up to that maximum. Workspace Settings > Billing lists the credit value and duration of the promotion before the invoice arrives. Sales Tax or VAT, where it applies to your billing location, is outlined on its own line.
Only at Railway's sole discretion, and only for new customers who no longer wish to use Railway after trying it out. Refund requests go through Workspace Settings -> Billing under Billing History. No refund button next to an invoice means the invoice is ineligible, and that decision is final. Railway generally does not issue refunds for resource usage, and invoices for a deleted account are not refundable. The promo credits themselves are non-refundable and have no cash value. After a refund is issued, it may take up to 5~10 business days to be processed, and your subscription may be cancelled immediately and your services taken offline.
No. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same duration as the term originally selected, at the then-current non-promotional rate. A promotion has a duration, and Workspace Settings > Billing shows it next to the credit value. Once the credit is gone, plan pricing takes over: Hobby is $5 minimum usage with $5 of included usage, and Pro is $20 minimum usage with $20. Included usage is reset at the end of every billing cycle and does not accumulate over time. Usage above it is billed in arrears the following month. Auto-renewal can be switched off through your account settings, and a terminated subscription is not renewed after the current term expires.
Credit cards. Railway accepts credit cards for plan subscriptions and usage, and invoice payments are available to customers on the Enterprise plan. A promotion upgrade needs card details too, because the card covers any usage that exceeds your credit amount. The Billing Info section of the billing page holds the payment method, billing email, billing address and Tax ID / VAT number. Those details are reflected on all future invoices from Railway. Railway may collect applicable sales tax and VAT based on your billing location, and when assessed and collected, Sales Tax/VAT is explicitly outlined on your invoice. If a subscription payment fails, Railway retries the payment method on file over several days and informs you, in case the payment method needs to be updated.
They expire immediately. All Usage Credits end upon the cancellation or termination of your account unless used prior to it. Credits have no cash value and are non-refundable, so nothing returns as cash. Cancelling a subscription works differently: on Hobby or Pro, your plan remains active through the end of the current billing period, and any usage is charged at the end of the period. A Hobby subscription paid with prepaid credits is canceled immediately and any credit balance is forfeited. Cancelling happens in the Active Plan section of your Billing page with the Cancel Plan button. No prorated refund of any portion of the subscription fee for the current subscription period applies after a termination.
Remaining trial credits carry over to your new plan. The trial grant is a one-time $5 that expires in 30 days. Carried-over trial credits may not be applied to your first billing cycle; they are applied as a discount to subsequent charges once a successful payment has been processed. When 30 days pass or the $5 is spent, the trial reverts to the Free plan, which provides $1 of free credit per month. That credit does not roll over month to month. A promotion has its own conditions: the unique link opened before signup, and the Hobby upgrade. Stateful volumes created by Trial accounts are deleted 30 days after the expiration of your credits.
Only new signups qualify. If you already have a Railway account, the credits will not apply to you. The same goes for an account created before you navigated to the unique promotion link, so the order matters: link first, signup second. The promotion also needs the Hobby upgrade on the Plans page, which is where its name shows when it applies to your account.
