SHRM student membership requires current student status at a college or university. That process checks authoritative information, including connections with colleges and universities, to determine whether an applicant is currently a student. When automatic confirmation fails, additional evidence can support the application, such as a college transcript or invoice. Requested documents are submitted directly to the service confirming student status. Once a student graduates, the existing student membership continues until renewal, when current enrollment is checked again. Someone no longer enrolled in a degree program is encouraged to move to Professional Membership. Purchase problems after student status is confirmed are handled by SHRM Customer Experience through the support contact form.
SHRM’s student-to-professional upgrade discount becomes unavailable once the student membership lapses. Student members who upgrade at or before renewal receive 50% off the professional fee for the first two years. Graduates can keep their current student membership until its expiration, with student status checked again at renewal. Someone no longer studying is encouraged to upgrade at or before the renewal period ends, which is 30 days. Continued enrollment in a college or university can support continued use of student membership. If enrollment cannot be confirmed automatically, a college transcript or invoice can support that application. SHRM Customer Experience handles problems completing a purchase after student status is confirmed.
SHRM applies special student conference registration rates automatically to active student members. The special rate is available when registration is processed online or over the phone, and active SHRM Student membership is required. Eligible events include the SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition and SHRM Talent Conference & Exposition. Registration rates are subject to change. Student membership applicants may be asked for a college transcript or invoice when their current enrollment cannot be confirmed automatically. Graduates retain their existing student membership until it is time to renew. For a problem completing a purchase after student status is confirmed, SHRM directs the request to Customer Experience.
SHRM refund eligibility depends on the product: membership is non-refundable and non-transferable, while eLearning purchases have separate conditions. Online software purchases may qualify for a 100% refund if you have not logged into the product and request it within 30 days. Incomplete eLearning courses can also be refunded after that period. PMQ refund requests and cancellations of an entire incomplete-course order carry a $250 administrative fee. A wrong-product or wrong-user purchase needs a refund request within two business days, with incomplete courses eligible for a full refund. Requests go to eLearning@shrm.org with the order number and reason. Licenses cannot be transferred or cleared; replacing an unintended user requires purchasing another license.
SHRM accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover Card credit and debit cards for online purchases. Orders that do not require shipment charge the card immediately. Physical product orders charge when dispatched from the main fulfillment center, while products from an alternative distribution center can be charged immediately. Applicable sales tax and shipping fees may be added to the purchase amount, with payments in U.S. dollars unless otherwise specified. Check payment is an alternative arranged through Customer Experience, which first supplies a Sales Order or Invoice. Its number needs to accompany the check, and receipt and application take three to four business weeks. Promotion entry still precedes payment in the Promo Code field.
