Descript Discount FAQs
Descript offers plan refunds within 48 hours of the invoice date. A refund request goes to the Support team from the email associated with your Descript account. The invoice date determines the window, so open App Settings and select Invoices to locate the relevant purchase. Only Drive owners can view invoices, and accounts with multiple Drives need the correct Drive selected. Canceling a subscription leaves the paid plan active until the billing term ends; it does not provide a prorated refund for unused time. To retain a copy of a paid invoice, open it and select View Receipt to download the receipt.
Descript Drive owners can request an Editor seat refund within seven days of the additional seat's invoice date. Submit the request to Support from the email associated with your account. Adding an Editor mid-cycle creates a prorated charge for the remaining subscription term, followed by the full seat charge on the next invoice. A teammate's separate personal subscription remains separately billed when they join your Drive. To control new invitations, a Drive owner or admin can open Settings, select Members, and enable Manually approve new editor invites. Pending invitations then await approval rather than being sent immediately. Review pending requests in Members before approving another paid Editor seat.
Descript restricts promo codes to new accounts upgrading from Free to a paid plan, and each code can be used only once. A purchase can contain only one code, and an offer with an expiration date must be redeemed before it expires. Start the upgrade in App Settings under Plan, then select Change plan. In the browser tab that opens, choose the paid plan, Editor seat count, and billing cycle. At checkout, select Add promo code, enter the offer, and click Apply after selecting your purchase. Save changes completes the purchase. For an error that remains after following these steps, include the error message when contacting Descript Support.
Request your Descript refund through Support using the email associated with your account. Plan purchases have a 48-hour refund window measured from the invoice date. Open App Settings, select Invoices, and open the purchase you want refunded to find that date. Descript provides email support through the Submit a ticket option, including for people without an account. If you already have a support request open, you may need to reply to that thread confirming that you want a refund. Your subscription invoices are available in your account rather than sent by email. Select the correct Drive before opening Invoices, because only its owner can view those records.
Descript's Free plan lets you record, edit, and mix audio and video without entering a credit card. It includes 60 media minutes per month, 100 one-time AI credits, and video exports at 720p. Free video exports include a watermark. A promo code can be applied when a new account upgrades from Free to a paid plan. To start that upgrade, open App Settings, select the relevant Drive, then go to Plan and choose Change plan. The browser checkout lets you choose the plan, Editor seats, and billing cycle. Select Add promo code and Apply before completing the upgrade with Save changes.
Descript does not prorate refunds for unused subscription time when you cancel mid-cycle. Your current paid plan remains active until the monthly or annual term ends, then the Drive switches to Free. Existing projects remain accessible, while features outside the Free plan become unavailable. To cancel, open App Settings, select the correct Drive, and go to Plan followed by Change plan. Choose Downgrade to Free, select the required cancellation reason, and click Cancel subscription. Follow the prompts through the confirmation message. The Billing cycle field in the Drive's Plan settings shows the renewal date, time, and timezone, so complete cancellation before that renewal to avoid the next subscription charge.
Descript accepts credit cards and Link by Stripe for Hobbyist, Creator, Business, and Educational/Non-profit subscriptions. Depending on your location and currency, checkout may also offer Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App, Amazon Pay, or local payment methods. Invoice billing is available to Enterprise plans. Outside the United States, checkout may display a local currency, with a selector for USD or local currency when both are available. You are charged in the selected currency, and a bank may apply exchange fees when your card uses a different currency. Only the Drive owner can update payment details: open App Settings, select Profile, then Edit beside Payment method in Billing details.
Descript annual billing offers savings of up to 35% compared with monthly billing. The annual option changes the billing commitment, and switching an existing monthly subscription to annual takes effect immediately. Descript charges for the annual plan and credits the unused portion of the current monthly term toward it. The next renewal falls one year after the switch. To change the billing frequency, open App Settings, go to Plan, and select Edit current plan next to your billing cycle. Select yearly billing and complete the change with Save changes. For the exact next renewal date, open your Drive's Plan settings and read the Billing cycle field, which also includes the renewal time and timezone.
Descript's plan refund eligibility is limited to 48 hours from the invoice date. Canceling later keeps the subscription active until the current term ends, without a refund for unused time. To stop the next renewal, open App Settings and select the relevant Drive. In Plan, choose Change plan, then Downgrade to Free, and complete the cancellation prompts. Descript bills each Drive separately, so a subscription on another Drive can continue charging after you cancel one plan. You can view each Drive's subscription by clicking its name in the upper-left corner and selecting Settings. The Plan tab lets you review that Drive's billing and seat settings before making the cancellation.
Descript top-up purchases are non-refundable, and cancellation preserves the remaining balance with its original expiration period. Top-ups expire 12 months after purchase and provide additional Media Minutes or AI Credits. They are available on Creator and Business, shared across the Drive, and consumed after the monthly allowance runs out. When cancellation takes effect and your Drive moves to Free, you cannot use the preserved balance while on that plan. Upgrading back to a paid plan restores access to the available balance, with the original expiration period continuing. Before purchasing another bundle, open App Settings and the Usage tab to view your current usage and access the Top up option.
