About DigitalOcean & Latest Deals
DigitalOcean sells Droplets virtual machines, Kubernetes and managed databases, with a $5 sign-up credit that needs no promo code.
DigitalOcean signup credit: $5 for 90 days on your first team
DigitalOcean sells cloud hosting, and it applies a $5 signup credit, valid for 90 days, when you create your first team. No promo code is required for that credit. A DigitalOcean promo code adds a Promotional Credit or Discount, which offsets eligible fees and charges. DigitalOcean Droplets virtual machines start at $4/month.
DigitalOcean credit on Droplets, Kubernetes and managed Databases
DigitalOcean applies the signup credit to all products except SaaS Add-Ons. Managed Kubernetes starts at $12/month and managed Databases at $15/month. A promo code credit covers only the Eligible Services its offer designates. Serverless Inference and Managed Agents require promotional credits or a positive prepaid balance.
DigitalOcean credit skips Marketplace, Support, prepayments and taxes
DigitalOcean promotional credits and discounts do not pay fees for DigitalOcean Marketplace or DigitalOcean Support. Services for mining cryptocurrency and any upfront fee or prepayment are excluded as well, and so are any other Services designated by the DigitalOcean contracting entity. Sales, use, gross receipts and similar transaction based taxes stay outside every DigitalOcean credit.
DigitalOcean monthly billing cycles and when a credit starts to count
DigitalOcean bills in monthly cycles. A promo credit offsets eligible charges incurred during or following the cycle in which the code is applied. Usage of Eligible Services beyond the available credit is billed to the DigitalOcean account. DigitalOcean charges the card when a billing cycle ends, or sooner once usage passes a threshold.
DigitalOcean: the signup credit is automatic, a promo code is redeemed
DigitalOcean adds the signup credit to a first team automatically, with no promo code required. A DigitalOcean promo code works the other way: its credit is not applied to the account until the code is redeemed. Two DigitalOcean promotions do not combine unless DigitalOcean authorizes it.
Redeeming a DigitalOcean promo code on a valid account with a payment method
DigitalOcean takes promo codes through the DigitalOcean Site, or as DigitalOcean otherwise directs, on a valid DigitalOcean account. A valid payment method has to be added before you can create Droplets or other resources. DigitalOcean allows each promo code on one account only, and only once. Signup credits fall under the same Promotional Credit & Discount Terms.

DigitalOcean Promo Code FAQ
No: DigitalOcean applies the $5 signup credit automatically when you create your first team. The credit is visible in the Control Panel's top navigation bar as a Signup Credit balance, and that balance updates as you pay for resources. It applies to all products except SaaS Add-Ons. Signup credits expire 90 days after signup, and any remaining credit cannot be used once the 90-day period ends. Your card is not charged until the free credit is used up or its expiration period is over. Droplets and other resources still need a valid payment method on the account first. Signup credits cannot be moved to other teams.
A DigitalOcean promo code is redeemed through the DigitalOcean Site, or as DigitalOcean otherwise directs. You need a valid DigitalOcean account to redeem it, and its credit or discount is not applied to the account until the code is redeemed. From then on it offsets eligible fees and charges incurred during or following the billing cycle in which you apply the code, and DigitalOcean billing cycles are monthly. Each DigitalOcean promo code can be redeemed a single time, on a single DigitalOcean account. The signup credit needs no promo code: DigitalOcean applies it automatically when you create your first team.
Yes, DigitalOcean Startups includes 12 months of DigitalOcean credits among its perks for startups accepted into the program. DigitalOcean Startups helps developers create, launch, and scale their startups. New applicants must have raised $10m or less, have a company website with a matching company email address, and create a registered DigitalOcean team account with a business or company email, not a personal one. Service-based startups, such as consulting services, web or app development services and marketing agencies, are not eligible. The DigitalOcean Startups program does not cover GPU Droplet usage with its core credits, which may only be used with Qualifying Program Services.
A DigitalOcean promo code is refused when it has expired or has already been redeemed. Codes cannot be redeemed after the expiration date indicated when you receive them, and a code left unredeemed past that date is forfeited. Each code can only be redeemed once and only on one DigitalOcean account. Redeeming one requires a valid DigitalOcean account, and any credit or discount applied to accounts that DigitalOcean determines were created solely to obtain promotional credits or discounts is void. Every DigitalOcean offer can also carry its own additional terms, conditions or restrictions on top of the general Promotional Credit & Discount Terms.
DigitalOcean charges your card only after the free credit is used up or after the credit expiration period. With the $5 signup credit, spending $3 in that timeframe leaves the card uncharged, while spending $10 uses the full credit and the card is charged only $5. Any use of Eligible Services in excess of the available promotional credit or discount is billed to the DigitalOcean account. The card is only charged at the end of the billing cycle or upon exceeding a usage threshold. No DigitalOcean credit is applied against sales, use, gross receipts or similar transaction based taxes that may be applicable to you.
A DigitalOcean promo code credit pays only for the Eligible Services that its offer designates. The automatic $5 signup credit applies to all products except SaaS Add-Ons. DigitalOcean list prices start at $4/month for Droplets, $12/month for Kubernetes and $15/month for Databases. Serverless Inference and Managed Agents (Harness Runtime and Action Gateway) require promotional credits or a positive prepaid balance in order to run. No DigitalOcean credit or discount is applied to DigitalOcean Marketplace or DigitalOcean Support fees, services for mining cryptocurrency, or any upfront fee or prepayment for services. Sales, use and gross receipts taxes are never offset by a DigitalOcean credit either.
It depends on the offer: a DigitalOcean promo code needs a valid DigitalOcean account and follows any extra conditions set in its own offer. The DigitalOcean signup credit is applied when you create your first team. DigitalOcean Startups credits are only for new startups that have not used prior credits with DigitalOcean. A promotional credit or discount may be applied only to your own DigitalOcean account, never to someone else's. Unless DigitalOcean authorizes it, a promotional credit cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotional or incentive offer from DigitalOcean or its affiliates.
Yes. DigitalOcean uses one promo code field at checkout, so a coupon and a promo code work the same way: paste the code there before you pay.
