How to save on Cloud Hosting

Cloud Hosting discounts take several forms: account credits, lower rates for longer rentals and service-specific offers. The eligible account, product and billing term determine what reduces the bill. A compute credit may leave other resources at their regular usage rates.

Match credits to the account and product

DigitalOcean lists a $200 credit for new users. Its first-time credit must be applied before the first resource is created; a previous Droplet can make an account ineligible. Linode also lists a $100 credit, with promotions aimed at new accounts rather than renewals. If you already use either service, plan around the regular usage rate instead of assuming a signup credit will reduce the next invoice. Linode credits cannot be moved to another team's account.

Vultr lists Cloud Compute and Bare Metal among its services. Its signup credits can last up to 30 days and expire under the promotion's terms. Vultr generally does not refund deposited funds, so load only the amount you expect to use.

Compare the whole billing period

Cloud servers and fixed-term hosting produce different savings. Linode uses utility billing, so reducing an instance size can lower ongoing spend when a larger machine is no longer needed. DigitalOcean continues charging for a stopped Droplet because its resources remain reserved; destroying an unneeded Droplet ends that charge. Its included transfer has a limit, and usage beyond it is billed separately. These running costs matter after a signup credit is spent.

For a defined project, compare the daily, weekly and monthly totals. MaxCloudON listed a CPU server at $4 per day, $21 per week or $48 per month as of October 2026. Monthly rental costs less per day for a job that lasts several weeks. The same provider lists an optional public IP at $5 per month per VM, so include it if the project needs direct public access. Its 48-hour CPU trial requires no bank card and is limited to one trial per new client.

Metrabyte Cloud sells hosting and VPS plans separately. As of October 2026, its Linux cloud hosting starts at ฿599 per year, while Linux and Windows VPS ranges start at ฿250 per month. An offer for hosting should be matched to the hosting order, not assumed to apply to a VPS. Sagenext supports monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual billing. The shorter cycles let businesses align hosting payments with the period they need.

Apply the offer before committing

Some providers limit offers by order date. Cloud Clusters limits promotions to qualifying orders accepted during the promotion period. If an eligible discount does not appear, send its sales team the chosen plan and offer details. The offers listed on each store's page identify the promotion to bring to that conversation.

Some cloud services use a sales quote rather than a public checkout field. Fastly directs package buyers to sales; ask for the offer to appear in the quote before accepting a Service Order. Its order controls the promotional rate and renewal price. Fastly also has a separate free-services program for eligible open source and nonprofit members, which may be more relevant than a package promotion.

Servermall Cloud has a Promotional Code field on the Upgrade/Downgrade confirmation screen for a VM, next to the payment method. Its Frankfurt VM prepayment discounts are 8% for three months, 9% for six months and up to 10% for 12 months. Those published term discounts apply to Frankfurt VM orders, so a different location or service may have a different total.

Know what a trial or cancellation covers

Upcloud lists a free trial alongside cloud servers, managed databases, object storage and private cloud. Confirm which service the trial covers before deploying resources. Sagenext's seven-day trial is followed by an initial payment to activate the account.

Refund terms differ by provider and service. Metrabyte Cloud says a VPS used for no more than seven days qualifies for a full refund, with payment returned within 15 days after the completed form. Cloud Clusters says paid fees are generally nonrefundable, though support may review significant service issues or special circumstances. Request cancellation through its client area at least two days before the next billing date; switching off a VPS does not cancel the service.
